Hi Sarge,
The EXE you get with the new FM also contains many weeks of effort on the counts (losses, kills in the Combat and Diary Reports). It is my continuation of the work you did helping me get to a understanding the scope of the issue.
Anyway I have made some more good progress on the problems, IMHO. I hope you have time to take a look and you can agree but I will keep plugging along.

Yes, the EXE is still 2.08 until we do a 2.09, I guess. The EXE date should be Nov 2008, I would think.
If you installed the EXE here,
http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/bob_dev/BDG_2.09-31.rar , it is the latest.

Buddye,
Thank you for your continuing efforts to improve BOBII [:)]
With regards to the FM I do have some observations regarding drag. I'm not a member of the a2sim forum (yet) but I've looked at most of the threads to find some answers. I don't know if this is the new FM or just the limits of the rowan FM.
The one manuever that stands out with regards to drag is the "sideslip". I'm not seeing any drag at all when perfoming this manuever. Even if you kick the rudder to full deflection in level flight and maintain level flight there's no bleed off of airspeed. The only bleeding occurs when your nose is up (obviously), or you are turning. Also, with the throttle at idle I'm not seeing any bleed off ... well, not at the rate that I expect so is there a way to change the thrust/drag ratio? I feel that drag isn't modeled at all (rowan code?).
I looked at the acm file but I'm unsure about what I'm reading and understanding any values.
Is there something I can change or test that can increase drag when the control surface is deflected?
I'm running v2.09 with all the recommended values right now.
Thanks!
Rob

HI Rob,
Drag is modelled in BOBII for each and every aero surface. I just tested kicking full rudder and watching the A/C slow down so I am not really sure about this one. We have worked on drag back on 2.06. If you think the drag is too small you might be able to make a change to the ACM/ACD tables but making a change like that will effect everything the A/C does for both the AI and the player (so you could help the player and really mess up the AI).
Let me recomend this. When you get on the A2A forum just post a comment about the drag being too low (or increasing the Drag). I better let Blue Six our FM engineer help you with the ACD/ACM files in the models folder as I do not want to mess up your game. Blue Six just knows the FM stuff so much better than me.
BTW, did you make all the BDG.txt recommended changes that goes with the new code on the FM thread?

Buddye,
I'll pop over to the other forum after I run some more examples.
I am running the recommended changes ... I cut and pasted them in and double checked.
Thanks!
Rob

Hi again Rob,
I think, to get the full effect of the drag in "sideslipping" you need to have this set:
options->Sim set Torque/Slipstreaming = ON.

Buddye,
Thanks for troubleshooting this!
Yes, I tried the Torque/Slipstreaming = ON and it does make difference and I'm going to leave this on, however ...
I think I found the problem ... And it's related to the propeller ... (you mention of torque made me look more at the prop)
I was running with the Prop Pitch Control on AUTO. So, it appears that when I applied full rudder it caused drag (like you said) but since the prop was in automatic control it compensated for this and changed the pitch and gave me more thrust. In other words, there was no change expect in RPM which should have been my clue in the first place because I can hear the RPM change when I did this.
When I went to manual prop control there's isn't a problem at all [:)] ...
Looks like it's just operator error which I thought it was since there wasn't any other complaints about drag. Considering operator error I went back and looked at my joystick settings. I'm using a Microsft Sidewinder and it appeared to be in order with calibrations but I reset the joystick (unplugged the usb, then plugged back in) and perhaps the throttle and/or rudder calibration may have been bad (though not noticeable until now).
At any rate, all the FM changes you guys have done are now in full working order for me so I'll have to get back in the planes and learn how to fly them with proper equipment! [;)]
I still have a whole bunch of questions/suggestions about your other changes but I'll refer them over in the other forum.
Much appreciate your time in all this!
Rob

NP, take your time as BOBII is rather deep and has a learning curve.
BTW, good catch on the prop pitch. I never fly in manual as I am just a coder who needs to test.
