I'm a newb for WW2 pacific/carrier war games. I've played lots of board and computer games, but, not WW2 pacific carrier war.

Any suggestions for the best way to learn this game?

Thanks.

As with any computer game, start off with the smaller scenarios against the AI. Play the daylights out of it to learn what works (or doesn't) in any given situation. Play both sides to better understand each side's strengths and weakness. Once the AI becomes boring you can either try your hand at H2H against yourself, again to familiarize yourself with the long campaigns, or dive into the deep end against another human.

It will take a while to get up to speed, as this game is complex and covers many aspects of naval warfare.

Read the game manual & then keep it in the bathroom to read some more.

Read the forum posts for insight on dos and don'ts.

Ask questions on the forum.  Remember the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Play the AI as a learning tool and gradually increase the difficulty level as you get better.  Once you can beat the AI on the hard level try a PBEM and learn a totally different game as a human is the only real opponent to test yourself against.

As Tocaff says, there is a wealth of info here in the forums. Playing the AI will help get a feel for things, but remember that a real player will not make the same mistakes the AI will. (My personal favorite is the AI sending wave after wave of AP's to Lea to get hammered.)

Just remember that 95% of the time, your units do what you command them to, but be mindful of what can happen when that 5% comes up!

With me it's Gili Gili. Also they tend to send their best 8th Army or South Seas troops there which then can't get out!

It does the same thing at Gili Gili

When will I ever learn to read the entire thread before posting?

Well, redundancy never hurts when you are learning.

Read the manual, play the shorter scenarios, read the manual again. The manual will get you started in the right direction but you will learn much more about the game from the members that play this game and post here. Be patient as it looks daunting but if you like the game/theatre and are willing to go through some growing pains get ready for a good ride.

If you have a question do a forum search (you'll probably find answers & tips to other questions you might have).

Have fun! [:)]
