Size of scenario

As I understand the complexity of scenario from CPU perspective is measured by the amount of units and size of map? Is the size of units matters, i.e. would it be faster run if force structure will be integrated (where possible) in order to have less units?
According to mapmaker's manual maps we are kindly asked do not create maps bigger than 40x50km. Is this just recommendation? [:)] What will be the maximum (recommended) map size in BTFB?

For BFTB we are working on a max map size of 40 x 50kms.
In theory you can have a huge map area and as manay units as you like. However, the bigger the map area the longer it will take to determine routes that traverse the map and this will slow the game down - potentially temporarily freezing it for over a minute at a time. The more units you have the more routes that need to be determined. Hence the slower the game will run. It's really a question of what players are prepared to put up with. My view is that I don't want to be kept waiting more than a few seconds - a minute is way too long.

So, the size of units is not the limiting factor, i.e. there is no difference for the game to calculate path/engagements/etc for the small platoons or big battalions?
thanks!

No it's not. A unit is a unit. Regardless of whether it represents a platoon or a Corps it still must generate routes and line of sight checks etc.
