Very cool Kelley.
I compared the photos above to the North Carolina you did in that same camo pattern for the artwork we were putting together (of course I still have all those files we shipped back and forth)

She's sitting in Wilmington, VA, if any care to take a look at the real deal. She's pretty much the same ship as in the war. Very neat stuff. Let's see if I can figure out how to get a picture on here [8|]

She fought in almost every major battle in the Pacific and lost something like three men, and those I believe were to accidents. Quite a lady.

No men lost when she took a TT the way Wasp was sunk? Wow, that would be very unusual as she had a 19 ft hole in the hull IIRC

UMMMM That would be Wilmington, NC.
She lost 10 men killed in action and 67 wounded. Took a torp near the solomons on Sept 15,1942. Saved from becoming scrap in 1958 and officially dedicated as North Carolina's memorial to WWII veterans on April 29,1962.

The good ol' Showboat! I had a UV campaign versus the AI where she (nearly) singlehandedly held the IJN at bay at Lunga in the latter months of '42 and early '43...

Massachusetts is probably the ship Airgriff is think of. I believe she collected 11 or 12 battle stars and did not lose a single Navalman or Marine during her entire tour.
And she was even hit by two French 240mm shells during Operation Torch.

I stand corrected on all that stuff. It's been a few years since I've seen the ship. I just remembered being amazed at how many battles she had been in and only lost a handful of people.
Is there anything smaller than a BB or CV out there? I've seen a few subs, including the U-505 in Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.

There's a DD at Charleston, SC, but it's got some postwar additions to it. I think there's another DD down at Mobile, AL too.

If you like submarines, and if you get the chanse, you can always also visit Bremerhaven U-Boot-Museum in Germany, has a German WW2 Type XXI Submarine there...
