Partial base control

Post by rader »

One thing I would like to see for AE, though it is probably too much of a change:

Combat and base control, especially of a major city, is too all-or-nothing. If you don't take a base, you get nothing. If you take it all you get all of it. I think that a percentage control for a base (maybe even another hex) would be good.

So you can fight your way through the Sydney streets and go from controlling 30% to 35% after a vicious attack, and then the enemy counter-attacks and recaptures 2% down to 33% or whatever. Fractions of airfields, resources, industry, ports, etc. could fall or change hands at various levels of control as they are overrun. And there of course could be multiple airfields to fall. Both sides could control airfields within the same base, even, although planes on the ground would be subject to bombardment attacks - which makes me wonder why they aren't now...

Maybe a "wish list" needs be made for any future patches?

It's an old recommendation of mine. It would have required a rewrite of the land combat model.

From what has been written, I believe I will be satisfied with the released product.

I agree. I will be extremely happy with the product released with what has been discussed so far. This will be by far the most historical and best researched game ever. It is so far ahead of anything else as to be in a category by itself. Wanting it to be more historically complete is nice, but at some point you hit the law of diminishing returns.

I don't think anyone will be satisfied with AE. Thousands of features, thousands of design decisions. No one it going to agree with all of them (including me). And I'm guessing that any dissatisfaction will make it's way to the forum...
