p.s. just realized that my version of the game was 1.030b and my PBEM opponent was the production 1.030 release, could that have caused the problem?

I can't say for sure whether being out of sync without your opponent was what caused the game to end so early. I've never heard of this ever happening to anyone else, so I'm certainly hoping it was caused by being out of sync. Have you tried replaying your last Union turn with the official version to see if it still ends the game? It might not make a difference, but it would be good to know. I've sent your save on to Gary, but I can't look at it myself without the password (Gary has a way around needing the password). You could also send the save from the start of the Union turn to
2by3@2by3games.com and I can send that on to Gary in case it will help figure this out (it would also help if you and your opponent could send me your passwords so I can open the files and look at them). I've got to think that other players have gotten past Sept 1861 in their PBEM game using the latest official version. Did anything special happen on your September turn? When did Kentucky get attacked?

Joel,
Since we were only a few turns into the game we decided to start over after I updated to the production version of 1.030. Actually I uninstalled everything and reinstaled from scratch. We'll let you know if we get past the same point. In the meantime let's see what Gary says after looking at the save file.
Thanks,
Jim
