Is it possible to start a scenario and eventually change sides or add a nation to human or AI play?? I believe that someone on here posted that he would do a Sea Lion and then switch sides to fight the invasion. I haven't figured out how to do this ???

when on the map to play a given country, hit 'F1.'  Brings up a dialogue for changing AI/human and other things for any country.

Dear Tony,

I might have been the person you are thinking of as I am enthuiastic about this technique. I usually save each turn, and I might name my saved game "Axis03 19400501", and if that is a turn I suspect is a critical point in the game I might call it "Axis03 19400501 Breakthrough". Then after I have played the Axis side enough to see the way the battle develops I go back and load "Axis03 19400501 Breakthrough", hit "F1" as Gary says, change the "AI" countries to 'Human", and then save it as "Allied07 19400501 Breakthrough", or whatever, and play it out.

One nice trick with this technique to force the game to recognise your "F1" changes is to got to Options/Save and just hit "Exit". When you come back the game will continue the country phasing, but in "AI" mode if this is what you selected.

I am so glad you have the game. Be sure and give it every chance, and if you have any questions, a quick post here usually gets a answer.

If you have a very cool game going and want to share, a saved game zips into a very compact package. I am enclosing one called "Axis03 19391016.txt" (Really a zip file, so change the extension), which I am having a very good time with. If you play it, end the Italian turn, and then look at the situation in the West. Poland will surrender, and you have Axis troops back in Poland, but the French situation is "unusual".

Chuck

PS : just a quick edit to say you want to change the "Human" countries to "AI" as well.
PPS : I forgot to specify that this saved game is in public beta 1.3 format, and anyone wanting to is welcome to try it.

Thanks for the information. I'll give your game a try! F1 looks to be a "Great" feature that you can have some fun with....

Per the prior post, edelwiess75 made me aware of this thread.  I had no idea there was an F1 feature.

See Chuck's comments about transferring Production Points..., please tell me the next patch blocks this.   Between the non-restriction of the PP convoys and this total production work-around.., come on.  I hope these are both priority #1 in the patch.  The other proposed fixes would help, but PP is everything in this game.

Actually, I think it would be a mistake to limit the use of the F1 key. It is very useful for changing a troublesome situation that may have arisen on grounds of AI behavior or some mistake committed by one or several of the players. It might save a game when the players are so deep into it, that it otherwise have to be restarted with months of playing time lost.

As this game allows to mod many things (and also amount of PP, and human/AI player) trough csv files. I think that turning this featrue off makes no sense.
If someone want's to cheat he can always do that with his notepad or excel.

Uxbridge, I know you are mega smart, but I do not understand what you are saying.  The F1 thing is what caused our game (and others, see Chuck fixing others) to crash.  Prior to the F1 thing, nothing ever crashed.  Not arguing, I just am unclear on what you are saying.

Mr. Doom.  I did not know there were other ways to cheat.  I am not a programmer type at all.  How about this, for low tech guys like me, that could be a cheat.  I can see you like the F1, I do not know why, but I can tell you like it.  So can you just remove the DP and PP fields, that way it is just an AI to human changing thing?

I am not posting anymore on WW2:RTV (stop cheering).  I am kind of getting tired of getting beat up for legitimate input on this game.  It is a great game, but this is my last post,, except to take on PBEMers.., if I can find them.

Thanks to all and keep the patches coming.

Balto, every computer game has 'cheats.' 1) They're for debugging; 2) They're for playtesting. Just so happens, in this game there's a 3) F1 is the only way to make a country join up after a diplo-exert in a PBEM game (as far as I know). Supposedly the developer is working on fixing that little problem.

So the F1 cheat is just a tool. When you start playing a human opponent, just make a house rule about how, if ever, the F1 will be used. In our PBEM game, Chuck has saved a locked-up game a couple of times by fiddling with the F1 and the save files. That's the only way you would have been able to witness my glorious vict ... uh, well, you know ....

As for other ways to 'cheat,' i.e. modding the data files - same thing. Make an agreement with your opponent about the mods, as you did in your PBEM.

It's just a game. Feel free to comment or complain about it. Doomtrader doesn't seem to be overly sensitive.

And by the way, I made it to way past 1941!! Yea!

Frankly, I wasn't aware of any crashes related to the F1 key (we're still on the last Beta). If there is, I prefer it fixed rather than the removal of the entire feature. The possibility to balance and fix situations in PBEM-games simply by changing PP and DP settings is great.

I do of course realize that my situation is different from yours. I never play against an AI, thus I don't know what issues might arise if you do, and I usually don't read the contents in threads where issues concerning the AI is discussed. We're playing different games, you and I, and thus many issues means different thing to us.

Anyway, the AI haven't got any access to the F1, so if your playing against a computer it won't be an issue. [:)]
