How do I use a medkit in combat?

I realize that this is probably a stupid question, but I can't find it in the (rather spotty) manual.

Hold Ctrl when you have it equiped. You should get alittle medic symbol with an arrow on it.

Equip it in the right hand, then use the control key and click on the injured merc. The injured merc can heal himself if he has a medi-kit and is consious.
