I was playing France in an AI game last night. As usual, I bribed Sweden to join my side, and she did. Russia declared war in March.

However, to my surprise, Finland was not part of Sweden!

Has anybody else seen this? Is it an abberation, or is it a bug?

I never saw that. 

However Russia conquored Denmark (amphib) and received Norway as a bonus. Then conquored Naples (from conq. Papacy) and Sicily went Neutral.  Have seen this twice in 1.05 but no neutraling in earlier versions.

I've reported this as bug 428 on Mantis.

Yes. And, the problem has gotten worse. See the Mantis bug report for details, but:
 
France cannot place factors into Finland after Russia declares war on Sweden.
Russia CAN attack Finland.
To France, Finland is not part of Sweden.
To Russia, apparently it is.
 
However, I've only tried this on an AI-only game (with me playing France). I'm going to try it playing both Russia and France in a human-human-AI game next chance I get (this weekend, I suspect, but Guild Wars' Wintersday festival is calling my name ....)
 
It happened in the next game I played, too, this time in January.

Norway has apparently split from Denmark as well.

Marshall, I suspect this means Naples and Sicily also have a problem, or could have. I haven't checked, yet (can't get that far with an AI game).

I note that the bug (428) on Mantis is reported fixed in 1.06. But, there's an entry in the logs that you needed to know if Finland started the game as part of Sweden.
 
I do not know the answer to this, but I would guess the answer is a hybrid answer, just like the country (to Russia, maybe it was; to France, it may not have been).
 
Anyhow, I can't really tell that it's fixed from the notes (other than "fixed in 1.06"). Can you confirm?

I noted fixed in 1.06 BUT never could dupe this in 1.05.03???
 

I only tried it a day or two ago, but it fails the same way in 1.5.03. Also, I started a game as GB, and the same thing happened. I'm going to try Russia shortly.
 
Is there any possibility it's a problem with the setup files I'm using? I've had the same physical file since the game started.

Don't think so but give me a click-by-click if you can because I cannot dupe it...???

Start a game as GB or France. Spend one of your diplomatic actions to get influence on Sweden. If you are lucky, when Russia declares war (usually by March/April), you'll get control. When you get control, you will only have the main nation, not the satellite nation.
 
The saved game I included with the case on Mantis has it ready to go, although you may have to play it a few times until Russia declares war.

Here's another saved game. Load it, and then click "end phase" to the diplo phase. Keep reloading and ending the phase until Russia declares war on Sweden.

Once that happens, Finland will not be fully part of Sweden. If you click on Finland, the box SAYS "Sweden " owned (or, whatever). However, it's not colored on the mini-map, nor can you put any Swedish troops into it during reinforcement.

I also tested this with Prussia declaring war on Denmark. However, that's a rarity, because Prussia won't declare war very often. But, when I (as France) got control of Denmark, Danish factors could not be placed in Norway.

I am looking at this one and have loaded with 1.05.03 and each time Russia DOWs Sweden and France get control it works fine (10x)??? NOW, funny thing is that I have tried this with 1.06 and can dupe what you are seeing BUT not earlier??? I need to understand how you are seeing this with an earlier version??????????????????????

Try it with 1.05.01. That's the version at which I created the saved game files. I wonder if you didn't accidentally fix it in 1.05.03, but then removed the fix again in 1.06. If so, that should be a major clue as to the culprit.
 
Tonight, I'll start a completely new game at 1.05.03 and see if I can reproduce it.

This sounds like a mem issue where something is going beyond its boundaries or something.

Could be. Or, a video or sound card issue.
 
Intermittent problems are the hardest to solve. I hate 'em.

You may wish to check if the AI is trying to do minor dip on Finland.  I remember accidentally doing minor dip on Norway, and then it became separate from Denmark ever after.

There may be a connection here since France is trying to manipulate???
