New Map and Template - WinterRR1

I've put togehter a new winter map and accompanying template for use with the Random Battle Generator (or for your own scenarios).

The map is fairly generic. I built it using the template approach postted last week. I included a template for use in the Random generators - si if you only have PCK this will add anohter winter map to your random selections.

The zip file is in JGSME format, so just unzip into the PCK main directory and it will put the files into the MODS directory created by JSGME.

If you dont use the JSGME manager, it will create a MODS directory and put a folder in it named Map and Template - WinterRR1.

You will need to look in that directory and move the files to their correct locations:

/Map and Template - WinterRR1
Data/Template/Winter Map(RR1).xml ---> PCK/Data/Templates
Media/WinterRR1 (dir) ---> PCK/Media

I made the map fairly quickly using the WinterTemplate posted earlier. The force placement template for use in the random generator took the most time. Not sure I'm totally happy with result. The map is open enough on the two random battles I created- things started happening immeditiately.

In any event - if you dont own PC:OWS then you might want to add this so that you get another winter map in your random battles and campaigns.

Rick

Thanks for your work Rick!! ... I'll have to add this to the collection.

I'm glad to see how far you've advanced in the area of modding.

Nicely done.

I didn't think I would like gridded maps prior to this one, now I think I want all of them to be gridded. Hopefully it's an option in the next iteration of the game.

Will this new map show up in the random campaigns as well?

Ben,

The MM adds a top grid to any map you make with it you want it. You can even change the grid size, thickness and color. I would imagine it would be an easy change to the game code to toggle this top layer on and off.

Hey, thanks!

I dont normally use grids myself but I thought with white snow it needed something to show topography.

The download should have included a Data/templates dierctory with an XML file in it. if you put that XML file into the PCK/data/templates directory, then it should show up in random campaigns and random battles.
(In fact that was my main reason for making it - my PCK only has one Winter random battle template and I wanted a few more)

Enjoy!

Rick

Don't be surprised if the map doesn't show up in the Random Campaign Battles.

Some of the campaigns use specific maps to randomize, others just use the "random" statement which means it will randomly select all the maps instead of just a few.

The maps are defined in the battle plans.

For assure Rick's map has a chance to show up he'll need to change all the battle plans to include his map in the "mix". He won't need to change the plans that ask for only "random" since again, these will use all the maps that have templates.

All of this is spelled out in the doc's if you want more info.

Thanks again Rick!!

Thanks Spellir. I think the more maps we get in the random mix, the better it will be. Making a template takes some time, but once it's done, there's lots of varibility in random games on the map.

I didn't realize that. I did a random campaign and one of my custom maps poppped up (in fact it popped up twice in a row., so I assumed it would work for other radnom campaigns.

I'll have to look at the battle plans. But I doubt I'd want to change any of them. I generally shy away from changing any of the canned stuff, preferring to just add. Which makes PC:K so nice. A lot can be done with just adding to the stuff already down!

But I'm planning to look at the battle plans anyway. At some point I want to mess with that as well. With the WinterRR1 map template, and the Piepsk map template (I made one for Piepsk as well - and then I found the two templates you did for for the Levels 5 and 6 I think it is), I'm getting a pool of maps now.

I'm planning my next map to be a fairly correct rendition of some N. Africa topography (perhaps around Tebourba). I'll just texture it for Russia for now.

Thanks
Rick
