Issues with JTCS! Helppp!

Okay, I just received my JTCS today, and tried installing it, and I have some problems.

To start off. Here's my system I'm on:

Vista 64-bit on a Laptop

Heres my problems:

First off, I installed it, and updated it using the updater provided in the program, it worked! Somewhat! I couldn't start East Front though (somehow, I was able to install East Front and East Front Campaign CD1 on my laptop and it worked before, I just uninstalled it yesterday before the game arrived). And I couldn't see alot of the units, and when I started up the games, a number of messages talking about some kind've data stretch or something would continually flash across the screen, after going through them, I got into the game.

But I couldn't see many of the units, and I mean a lot of them were invisible. And I don't even think the updater gave me the 1.03 Update, only the 1.04 update.

So, I uninstalled the game. And re-installed it, and downloaded both update 1.03 and then 1.04. I restarted between every installation, the game, the patches, everything. And now it won't work, all I get is black screen, then I have to shut down the program because it isn't responding. And when I tried using the JTCS UnitViewer, it would just not respond.

Either I'm missing something, or I'm just a total noob.

Help would be appreciated! [:)]

Edit: I've looked through the pages, and can't seem to find any other problems like this, maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

I'm not a Vista user so I doubt I can be much help. There have been some problems with Vista compatibility, here's a link to another thread. Check out the other 2 links (from junk2drive) in that thread. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1944353

I can tell you that update 1.04 is all-inclusive, you don't need to update with 1.03 first.

I've noticed those threads, the thing is, I can't get into the game to even have the "flashing white" problem. I can't get to the menu to start the game.

But thanks for the heads up on the inclusive on 1.04.

Are you installing in Admin mode?

I'm a noob at Vista (I'm an XP junkie from way back), this machine is fairly new, and I haven't used it much, how exactly do you install it in Admin mode?

I don't have Vista but have read numerous problems with lots of games from the security of Vista.

When you start your computer in XP you have to log in as a "user". That user must have admin rights to install programs.

Once you figure that out, right click the .exe file that installs the game and make sure the properties states unblocked at the bottom.

Iunno what this problem has to do with security, it just seems like the game won't run at all, all it does is blackscreen, I don't see the menu, I can't get into it. The first time when I got the scenarios actually going, there were numerous units that were invisible, and I couldn't see them.

I really can't wait to get back to my XP machine to actually see if the game works.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with security.

Edit: And there isn't any other account on this laptop, just this one, so it can't be a "install as admin" problem... I don't think anyways.

Try this:
1.
deinstall the game remove any remaining files from the install
2.
deactivate UAC(User Account Control) in the "users" in "control panel"
3.
reinstall

good luck

Is there a posible second window with the map.  I have seen Direct-X bring up a black window and a good one.  Try Alt-tab to make sure there is not a good window there.
