Can you draw manually from VR squadrons?

I've got primary CV TFs bombing stuff. I have CVE(s) hanging back with a few VR squadrons of the appropriate type. I haven't lost that many AC (phhhttt Bilbow). But I thought I'd give it a try. I figured I should be able to "allow replacements" and then "get replacement AC" manually.
Nope.
Do I just leave them as "allow replacements" and things will be filled the next turn?
Or has anybody ever actually been able to draw from VR squadrons?
FWIW, it's CHS 156.

I'm playing CHS scen 159 and I do get repalcements when my CV squadrons are set to "Allow Replacements" but I've never been able to use the "get replacement" button for this purpose. That doesn't mean that it doesn't work in that manner, just that I've never been able to do it...

Alrighty then. I'll leave a few CVs as allow replacements, and see if they fill out next turn. I've even taken the time to "train up" the VR squadrons to 70s, so I don't pull in the 45 exp crap replacements. I can see having a little CVE group in tow as being very useful (esp for fighter replacements).
Thanks,

Interesting problem. Can you post the results please.

Hey, Feinder. I'm playing BigB, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but I was in fact able to manually bring in aircraft to my fleet squadrons from the VR's. Perhaps ops were used up?

How are you training up your VR's??

Fortunately, there are enough bases in range (and an on-going offensive in the Marshalls), that I park them at a land base and bomb the next target in line.

I thought that was a big no-no with VR squadrons. I heard they grew to a ginormous size. I suppose you don't "allow replacements" then?

Hmmmm. If you weed them down to a proper size, you could use those CVE's they are attached to as a proper flight deck.

Two things against imo;
They have more utility in their current role; especially later on when you are operatiing (one hopes) off Japan or the Ryukus without a base in days of sailing time.
After you get past the abysmal rating intially, they get the pool pilots that are avg 50'ish as normal.
USN has scads of CVE; to risk the replacement groups/decks in early combat...well, I wouldn't, for what it's worth. Replacement pilots are there to fill out groups and support the aces that do much of the work of real combat; mainly fresh wingmen really.

Well, in my current situation in 09-43, they serve plenty well launching extra combat sorties. But I did figure I'd need to know how to manage the replacement function in late '44; so I set up a few CVEs to try this replacement thing. Haven't gotten it to work yet (the auto-pull didn't work last turn). But that's why I'm setting up now, when I'm only talking about replacing 10 planes, instead of trying to figure how to do it when I *NEED* to replace 100.
(and yes, I have replacements off the landed VR squadrons in training)

Seems to be working for me in stock. However all of the CVEs with VR squadrons are in replinishement TFs. I have not tried to replace planes manually the computer just works it out. Pilot skills are low but you do not seem to get the pilots that are in the VR squadrons as the exp level seems to be higher.
