As the Union, is there any way I can reduce UNREST in areas (in the Basic game)? In more advanced games?

In the manual, there is a section that describes the effects of Unrest, but not how it starts or how to get rid of it. Is it something I just need to let happen?

I've played alot but I'm not an expert on the manual.  I know you can incur unrest in a province where you have mustered/conscripted/impressed.  Unrest can also spread from an adjacent province.  Also, you usually incur unrest just after you conquer a  province.  You normally lose one level of unrest with each passing turn.  In addition, units (division and above) can lower unrest in a province.

You can sit a division or larger unit on the area under unrest. Each turn each division has a chance to lower unrest, so if you have an army, each division has a chance to lower it by 1 turn.  Sometimes more then one division will succeed and you'll lower the unrest level by multiple turns. In the events window, each such success is listed.

Hopefully that's what you're asking about.

Ah, that makes sense. I had been doing that a bit, but I wasn't sure it was working. But it might be a good idea to have a few loose divisions just for running around and quelling unrest. Thanks. And thanks to GIJim (above) as well.
