Different battles option

Hi, seriously awaiting this game!

I would love to use this game for mutliplayers (with about 6 other players...) Unfortunetely these kind of games (long) require some really commited individuals. I also read somewhere that only quick battle could be used for those games...

So this brings me to my question:
what is the difference between instant, quick and detailed battles? I already figured what detailed and brigades are from the AAR. But what are quick and instant (I guess instant just gives you the result of the battle without you seeing anything happen.)

Franck,
You'll soon be able to see the difference when we release our promotional videos, but in a nutshell:
Instant battle=Battle's results are crunched by the computer and spat out, without the player having any say in the results
Quick Combat=Battle is arranged on simple grid with columns for attack, defend, etc., and the player places his units, enabling him to determine in an abstract sense what tactics to use
Detailed Battle=Battle is fought on a large, randomized hex-map with full control of each unit, either at the division level or brigade level

Regarding multiplayer games, PBEM battles are handled automatically (= instantly), but if you play a networked game then you can fight out detailed battles, which is also true of hot-seat.

Anyone as tried Instant battle or PBEM? Do you feel it takes away to much of the game not to be able to do detailed battles?

Personally I feel that in such grand strategy, it feels wrong to be able to take command of you battlefield. I guess you could call one of your Army ''La Grande Armée'' and pretend that you are there... On top of that, I know it has been said that AI should be better in EE, but AAR and war room discussion from both FF and COG seemed to indicate that you could easily change the result of a battle you should win to a auto win against the AI in detailed...

In that sense I would also feel that I'd be cheating if I was fighting every battle ;)... But I can still pretend that I, the leader of ''La Grande Armée'', am a genius ;P

Anyways, thanks for the reply...

I'm french and I don't have my dictionnary close by... But what exactly does soon mean in english... [8|] Does it mean: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7...X days? Could you specify the amount of days that would be REALLY helpful for my understanding [8|]

[:-] Ok, ok I know you won't tell me [:-]

In FoF one of the most important aspects of detailed battles is being able to call in reinforcements from adjacent areas. I assume this is also true in CoGEE. How is this handled in PBEM?

While the AI will ultimately be inferior to a player in any game, I can tell you that the AI is much, much improved in CoG:EE. The French in particular, are extremely tough to beat without superior numbers, especially in the first few years of the war.

As I understand it, the computer will call for adjacent reinforcements if it determines the odds are not in it's favor fighting without reinforcing. After that, it will call forces and they automatically respond and move in to fight.

We are currently fairly deep into play-testing a 1792 scenario, and I've seen this happen.
