How do Reparations work ?

Can someone explain how reparations work in the game ? The victory conditions imply the payment is a one off, but this does not seem to be the case. I'm aware they don't seem to be taken in the first economic phase following a surrender (why ?) but when are they taken and how are they spread ?

I believe that in one of the patches it was changed from a one-time payment to payment spread over 4(?) econ phases. Not sure about when it starts.

Yeah I don't remember this either. All I know is that it doesn't seem to work as the manual say it does. This needs clarifying badly.

We had to change this because at first we were not giving the whole amount for the right amount of time. We had to blend this with the loan code so it is typically spread amongst the next 4 eco phases. Is this what you're asking about?

Thanks Marshall, that explains it. Did I miss an update in the Readme files ? I couldn't find one.

Also I've raised an issue on Mantis (437) that there is no way to determine where payments coming in are from or where reparations are going to.

Yea, I'm not sure how (Or if) I will be able to do this since all of the payments are consolidated into one payment account with no "FROM" info today.

Well it's not a game stopper by any means but it would help. I've been in a position in a game as Turkey where I think GB and France might be giving me money and it's a little awkward to have to ask ;)

Also I've been in games where players have said "What's this thing 'debt' ?" is that still reparations ? Given that there was no explanation of how reparations worked it was confusing.

Am I right in saying reparations skip an economic phase. So none are repaid in the economic phase directly following a surrender ?

Never noticed personally, just something I vaguely recall from the forums.

It could be the case that a country doesn't actually have the money to pay its debt--especially if it's still at war with someone else and the capital gets occupied. In that case, I believe there is a PP penalty for bankruptcy, but I'm not sure what happens to the debt, whether it's written off, or just pushed back to later econ phases.

Run a few tests and it seem to operate as described. Payment is split over the next four economic phases. Thanks for the clarification Marshall.

Good to hear!
BTW: I would like to add more detailed info to this sometime in the future ao I am not totally dismissing that possiblity.
