Hello,
Just starting to learn the game and attempting to put into practice recomendations from a thread on this page about building forts - no luck. I am playing Union, advanced rules, mid 1861. I give orders to build Fort I, or Fort II and nothing happens. The manual dosn't shed much light on it. Any tips?

I am gonna guess here. I suspect this is how you did things;

1) Orders given to build a fort. At this time you have the resources to do so
2) Various orders given to your troops
3) Various upgrades/buildings purchased in your cities
4) End turn.

The problem is that #1 does NOT immedeately subtract the needed resources to build a fort, and when you reach #3, you spend the resources you need to build said fort.
Just a guess, but this has happened to me a few times.

Right,
That's what happened the first time, then I deliberatly left a whack of resources available at end turn and got the same result.
-How many resources are needed?
-does engeneering attributes etc help?
-How long is it supposed to take?

Thanks

OK, I found the cost in the manual: Lvl 1 100$, 100 Labour & 100 iron etc, I know I had at least double that at the end of my turn (2nd try) but I was attempting to build two forts. Perhaps the two orders canceled each other out? Not sure..

Hmm, a few more Qs then;
-were there other forts allready in the province?
-did you order the fort built by a city oir by a container?
-if a container was used, did it move, or was attacked?
-what level fort did you order?

No other forts in the province
Ordered them built by a container
No move or attack,
Tried both a Level I and a Level II on different turns

Question on Levels - are the costs cumulative? I.e. is it better to build a Level II right away at the cost of 200 of each resource or do you have to pay for a level one first or are they two different forts?

Thanks

Hmm, I do not know alot about forts, so why you could not build them I do not know when your answers came back as they did [;)]

I thought that you have to have a lvl 1 fort before you could build a lvl 2??

You don't need to build a Fort I before you build a Fort II -- each fort one builds is unrelated to others in the province.

This might be a dumb question, but is it possible that you did successfully build a fort, but don't see it yet? When first built, forts are almost invisible, other than their flag. Then each turn they become stronger and more clearly visible, as they are built up either by the container that established them or by the garrison troops put in them.

Not so dumb of a question - that is what has happend and now I have so many forts that I don't have the guns to equip them - ahh well a restart this early is no problem - still learning. It might be nice if there was a message in the end tern dialog that the fort was successfully started.

Thanks for your help, I suspect that there will many more questions comming your way..

cheers

I'm glad to know it's not a bug! (Didn't think it was, but there's always a chance.)

If you have additional questions it's best to post them in the main part of the forum, so that more people will see them. Not everyone visits this sub-forum regularly.
