What's up with the Jutland scenario????

Ok, now that I am armed with the full manual, I decided to finally give this game the attention it deserves...I thought I would tackle the Jutland scenario since that was one I have not tried yet, and it will allow me to see how naval combat works...
So, playing Germany, I send out the fleet, which appears automatic anyway but I set a way point in the North Sea...I then end my turn and the following occurs:
Some naval units move and I am at my first combat screen which is 3 of my u-boats. I find however that I am out of range so cannot conduct any combat. I go to "next battle" when lo and behold the victory screen pops up indicating that I have achieved a Major Victory...a 5 star victory at that! Now I have to say, that was a pretty lame scenario!
