Is there any reason to keep the Catalina's from upgrading to Mariners and Coronado's? Would this hurt the patrol sqdn's ASW capability? I don't think so, but want to make sure.

The Mariner and Coronado both have better range than the Catalina, so it's a good upgrade. In CHS, however, the replacement rate for those two are not nearly as good as for the Catalina, so you will end up keeping far more PBY squadrons on the board than you'd like...

The Cats befault load is the torp, the other two the bomb so thay are more effective against subs. On the downside the Cat is more manouverable.

If you can ever get them to attack, PBYs with 2x torps is a considerably better offense than 6x 500# bombs (can only hit with one).

I frequently use these AC on a transport missions. For this reason, I do like the upgrade to Coronado, but don't like the upgrade to Mariner, as it reduces the load by 50%.

On patrol and ASW missions, all planes seem to default to bombs... of course, the more bombs you have, the better your chances of hitting something.
