Some customers have reported receiving a "Jazz Project Exception" message box when running the game for the first, and any subsequent, times. If you are unable to get the game to run at all due to the "Jazz Project Exception" message box then it is likely you have a hardware component that is incompatible with Hired Guns.

Many customers with this problem have reported that they have a low-end or laptop-integrated video card which in some cases will not run the game.

To confirm that your "Jazz Project Exception" is because of hardware incompatibility put up a post in this forum explaining your situation and be sure to also post your DirectX Diag. The DirectX Diag is very important so please do not post a report of this nature without it.

I have been getting this exact issue. I got what you said but how do I post my DXDiag on here in the first place? Do you just want me to cut/paste the text components, ie display, network, input etc...I would like to figure out exactly what my problem is, and thank you this is frustrating as I LOVE this whole "Jagged" series & GOTTA play!

You can either choose to attached the DirectX Diag as a text file to a forum post or you can simply paste the entire contents of the Diag directly into your post. Either way is fine but we will need to see that information to determine the problem.

Hey, I tried bought this game yesterday but when I tried to run it (on Vista) for the first time today I got the Jazz Project Exception Error. I've pasted the details of my DXDiag file below. I only have an integrated video card (256 mb). When I check under display settings, it tells me

Please tell me theres some way to get the game to work, such as maybe dual-booting with windows xp?

I think the problem is not necessarily your operating system. Integrated graphics cards such as yours are notoriously spotty when it comes to compatibility. Perhaps the game does not work because your integrated graphics card is not fast enough or will not support the game.

Additionally, your sound card and video card drivers are well over a year old each. I recommend updating these drivers to see if that helps. If you still have no luck let me know but I suspect this is a hardware limitation that is causing the exception.

I installed the latest graphics driver from the Intel site and audio driver from Realtek but I'm still getting the same error. Does that mean I will need to purchase a video card? If so, any idea how much a decent one costs. I've never had a pure video card before cause all the games I've ever played worked without one. Also would I need a seperate power supply for it? Thanks a lot for the help

It's hard to answer your questions without more information. Do you have a Dell or another brand of pre-built computer? You can generally get a reasonable video card for around $100 or so but I don't know whether it would require another power source. Sometimes pre-built computers like Dells have the minimum possible power source in the machine so adding even an extra hard drive or the like would overload the Wattage.

Can you give me the exact brand and model machine you have and maybe I can work something out then.

How do I update my drivers. Geeze, I've only done that about 100 times, but cannot remember where the folder with all the little icons are . . . ADDIT: NEVER MIND! I remember now: Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager

I also have a new smokin' hot desktop (it has got some huge video card on it and a brand new motherboard) and I also got some kinda similar error when I tried to fire up Hired Guns. I suppose in that case it is liable to be that the drivers are not updated?

So sorry about the belated reply. The drivers in that DxDiag are both about 2 years old. Both your Sound Card and Video Card will need updating. Please go to the company website of both your sound and video card to update the drivers. If you need more help updating the drivers than from this 2 second suggestion please let me know.

So I updated my sound and video card drivers, and also a couple other drivers at Systemax' site. And then reinstalled the game (I had completely uninstalled it weeks ago usint Uruninstaller), and then patched it using the Updated Game link in the Startup Menu.

Now when I click on Play in the startup menu my antivirus thinks I'm being attacked by a "W32/W.B" virus, and it asks me if I want to "delete the infected file or not." Naturally, to be on the safe side, I have so far said yes, delete it. And the game does not start.

I reattach my latest Dxdiag (post updates) and let me know if there is any other info I can provide. Really looking forward to getting this baby running now that I've had such a long courtship period!

I have a decent system and after I turned off shadows my crashes went away....

Unfortunately I cannot get into the game to turn off the shadows. It comes up with an error as soon as I click on the big 'play' button on the game menu.

Try this. Go into the directory you installed Hired Guns to. In this directory there is a file called "system.cfg". Right click on that and then click "Edit".

A notepad file should come up. Press CTRL+F to search or simply scroll down to the line that reads:

r_shadowmapenable = "1"

Set the 1 to a 0 and save. See if that helps. This will disable shadows and may do the trick.

I opened the file and the line "r_shadowmapenable = "1"" was not in there.
I put it in anyway, and set it to "0".

No joy. It still comes up with the same error.
I've tried turning every single one of my non-essential programs off.
I suspect it is a hardware problem? But I cannot think of what it might be.

Does the line : "sys_locale" mean anything important?
Mine was set to "usa". I'm from the UK, so I changed it to "uk".
The error message now does not come up when I click on the play button on the game menu.

A nice splash screen with "Hired Guns The Jagged Edge" now appears instead.
It got all excited, but then it just disappears again and the game menu replaces it.

I don't know if this is relevant, I just thought I would mention it.

Can you make sure your video and audio drivers are set to their defaults? In other words, that you are not forcing anything on or off, just leaving at defaults or app control. Have you tried reducing video/audio acceleration via DxDiag to see if that makes any difference?

I've a multi-gpu graphics card. I've turned all the settings down to nothing. I've turned the sound acceleration to nothing. Still no joy. If there's nothing else you chaps can suggest, I think I will return this game to the shop. It's a shame, but I'm getting increasingly perturbed by the lack of support for a customer with a reasonable system that is hardly uncommon. Hopefully if you do make another sequel I will be able to run it Thank you for your assistance.
