Unit Support Question

I now have 6 units on Saipan.
2nd USMC Div infantry unit
1st USMC Armor unit
111th USA combat team unit
USMC Corp artillery unit
25 USA Div Infantry unit
59th CB Engineering unit
All units are attached to the central Pacific command. The first three units reflect that they have sufficient support with the 111th low on supplies (being unloaded now). the other three units do not have the support they need.
I can identify the units needed for aviation groups but the manual is a little vague on exactly what constitutes unit support so I am at a bit of a loss what to do for those last three units.
My guess is that I miscalculated when I loaded the AK's an AP' and the rest of the units is lost somewhere in RepoDepo hell because I can;t find them but that is just a guess.
Questions are, Could my guess be right and whether it is or not how do I fix it? What constitutes support for ground units?
Thanks
MikeG

Not all units have sufficient support squads. Bring in a base force or HQ. They have excess support.

Oh yeah, ground unit support is support squads.

Thank you Mike
I'm working with a modified tutorial scenario with the original cast.
I've only got 3 HQ's, 5th amphib force 7th air and central pacific. I'm kind of hesitant to plunk one of them down in the middle of a landing. I'll land a base force. Not being familiar with their exact function I'm seing seeing it as something that goes in after the fighting ends.
As for support squads, they exist as actual individual units?
Thanks again

Support squads are simply that - squads. They exist within most land units. I agree that, in this case, a base force is the way to go. You could always send in a fragment of a HQ. Personally, I don't like using fragments. For me it's all or nothing.

Hello Mikeg,
You should also know that the command to which your land units are assigned has no effect on support.

more of a question than a sure fact, but;
artillery units consist of suport mostly to, would this help in this situation?
bringing in another art. unit?

Each unit lists how much support it currently has, and how much it currently needs, about halfway down the left hand side of the screen when you're looking at them in detail. This should give you a good idea of whether any given unit is contributing to or detracting from the support situation in a given hex. Some artillery can be helpful to other units support-wise, some others require extra support themselves - this is pretty much the same for every type of unit except HQs which, since they are composed solely of support squads, are always helpful to the support in a hex.

No, artillery doesn't help. Each artillery piece needs one support squad, most units have a 1:1 ratio or even a few pieces more than support squads. Infantery, armour etc. usually have ca. 90% of the support they need, so you have to provide extra squads.
HQs and baseforces have extra support - at least if their ranks are filled out. Many baseforces arrive understrength, you should let them fill out in Tokio/San Francisco before you send them out.
Another good support source are the aviation regiments. They have more than 200 AV support and the same number of ground support. But the AV support doesn't need ground support squads (a bug?), so they provide more than 200 extra support.

In the game "support" pretends to simulate logistical tail without combat capability: Cookers, mechanics, paper movers, transport, medics etc, etc.

EDIT: No offense intended - been a REMF myself for a few months at the end of my service. Was a tank gunner before, until they shrank company sizes by 25% as a cost-saving measure and assigned personnel to other duties - became company clerk and as such spent the most boring time in my life...

Rear Echelon Mother ...( then you insert whatever word you wish starting with the letter F ).
It just dawned on me that in a lot of ways this is one of the best mannered forums I have been a part of outside of specific business/professional boards. I actually hesitated before I even wrote the above. And I know this board is full of folks who have heard a curse word or two. Another reason I am very glad I found my way to WiTP.[:)]
