If you were the owner of a team, what would you think of a manager who gave you the following results over a 6 season period?

Season 1: 29-31, 4th place, 9 GB
Season 2: 73-67, 4th place, 18 GB
Season 3: 57-83, 8th (last place), 27 GB
Season 4: 78-62, 2nd place, 15 GB
Season 5: 86-68, 2nd place, 9 GB
Season 6: 66-88, 8th (last place), 33 GB

Would you be telling him to pack his bags, or would you think he still had some potential?

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, I'm the bum.

If I were the owner, I would give you one season to bring the team back over .500. If you did that, then I would give you another season to contend for or win the division title.

I kind of like that idea. What would you consider 'contending', though, assuming it made it that far? Something similar to what occurred in Seasons 3, 4, & 5, or would it have to be better than that?

I would expect a similar performance to seasons 4 and 5. It is difficult to win it all in an 8-team division. A close 2nd place, or maybe even 3rd place, would do. I would consider contending to be anything less than 10GB of the division leader. And no epic collapse to lose the division lead at the end of the season. That would be bad.

Hm, I'm thinking I might let myself have another try as the team's manager then, and see if I learned anything from this last season. Of course, that's if the game will let me advance to the next season.

It's interesting to see the varied replies. One person says fire him, another says give him a couple seasons to get it back together, and a third says win the pennant next year or hit the road. Such pressure after the season from hell!

[;)] Well, there's another way to look at it. How have your approval ratings progressed/regressed? I'd say if it's below 50 for two or three successive seasons, you oughta be outta there.

Edit: let me put it this way -- my 1940 rating is "1" out of 100. [X(]

Well, my end of season 1904 rating was 63. At the end of 1905 it was 1. That's a drop of 62 points in one season. If it could've gone lower it probably would have.

As usual, I am late to the discussion.  Need to get back to having some fun, but.... (time for the story later) [;)]
 
Based on the information you presented, I would have to say that I would give you one more season to turn it around.  If I did not see the improvement in record and team ability I would have to say thanks for the years of service, but see ya.  The real question would be would you be able to survive the season or not if the team were to start slow.

I find it interesting you have 2 good seasons followed by 1 poor season.  Your trend indicates that season 7 will be better.  Again, based on your trend, I would expect a play-off berth in season 7 or I would fire you.

So far, I'm definitely choking. At the end of May we are dead last.

Y'know, I keep wondering if the AI is actually getting smarter, or (doh!) I'm just gettin' dumber. [X(] Surely the AI doesn't use heuristic methods to analyze my play calling tendencies, does it? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm starting to doubt my own managerial abilities.

In any case, the PS baseball gods are mocking my Dodgers (read my latest reports and you may believe me). [:(]

I feel the same way. I just don't understand why my team can't win games. To see if it was me I let the computer manage a few games and we lost those, too. This is one of the reasons I wish I had a little more insight into the inner workings of the game engine. How do I know that it's not just a 50/50 chance that you're going to win or lose each game? It certainly feels like that sometimes.
