transport of air units across oceans

How does one transfer an air unit across the Atlantic? Having never played the US before, I can only guess - is it by sea transport, as for other units? (and don't say, 'just try it, dummy!' because the US isn't actually allied yet in my game.

No, it is not by sea transport, it's only by strategicaly redeployment. But it cost some PP and be only done to frienly city.

In version 1.3 there is a handy "island", perhaps Bermuda, in the middle of the Atlantic which is a midpoint in the transfer from New York to southern England. You go from New York to the "island" and then on to your next destination.

Is it correct that this island works only for the US (and possibly its allies)? I believe I tried once as the Axis to amphibiously land on this island with the idea to get German Air Units to the US. But at the time I did not find a way to make that work and in the end I proceeded without it. I concluded that there is no way to get Axis air power to the US and that may actually be ok.

Having the same island work for all sides allows for one side to block it with a unit - which is not a good option since the island is a crutch in itself and real transfers did not rely on islands. Only alternative I see for game mechanics is one island for each faction for exclusive use.

(That is probably only relevant if playing the AI since between two humans of about equal strength it may never get to this point).

I think that landing there with an Axis division would be an effective way to stop US air transfers, and that would be a very big deal.  Did that part of it work?

No, it did not work - just wanted to find out if you found another way to get Axis air across.

And I agree that the possibility of blocking it would skew the situation a lot. Hence I thought about a separate islands for each faction, each unusable and unblockable for the other factions.

Now now, stop thinking like that, Chuck.
