It would have no effect on the game whatever but it would be fun if the individual soldiers, as well as the units could be renamed.

Also, I find it easier to keep up with my units on the battlefield if I rename them: 2nd Platoon BAR for instance. It would be nice if there was someway to retain these unit designations rather than having to redo them every battle. I am very new to game so maybe these things can be done? Thanks.

P.S., I would like to be able to remand the larger units too (divisions and regiments). A personal quirk, I like to rename everything. But this would allow you to put your favorite divs and rgts into the game.

In the battlegroup screen every team can be renamed.

My regular opponent used to name his teams using rude words!

Can individual soldiers not be renamed by editing the campaign file?

Yes, with a hex editor and due care of the offsets.
