How do I attach conquered provinces to Protectorates?

In my current game I have received Trent and Tyrolia from the Austrians as part of a surrender treaty. I would like to attach Tyrolia to Bavaria and Trent to Italy. These provinces are in those protectorates in later scenarios but I cant seem to do it in the 1805 scenario.

Any ideas?

PS Would also like to attach Magdeburg to Westphalia but can not.

In the Diplomacy screen under Country Details... it should list each province.  Next to the provice should be some little buttons one of them should be a 'P' if the province can be a protectorate or part of one.  Now when I was in North Africa I was able to add one country after another to an existing neighboring protectorate.  I just started with Algeria I belive and then for it's neighbors I hit the "P" next to it's name and it popped up a window asking which protectorate to add them too... after then next turn I added their neigbors to that first ones I added.

I think these provinces just cant be attached to protectorates, which doesnt really make sense.  They are protectorates in another scenario.

Napoleon arrested the Pope, I should be able to attach these provinces to Protectorates.

I believe only minor countries can be attached to or made protectorates thus Tyrolia wouldn't count as it is always a home territory of a major country.  Eric would have to clarify that but I think that's what you are seeing.

Provinces ceded by treaty effectively become homeland provinces. They can neither be liberated nor made into protectorates, unfortunately.

In the other scenarios, they are still part of a minor power, and so they can start the scenario as a protectorate.

What is the benefit of making it a Protectorate?

You loose control of it's production,
But every unit it builds doesn't count against your unit limit...

I don't like one feature of protectorate tough... If a protectorate provinced is suceesfully sieged it becomes and ennemies provinces...

Hmmm. Sounds kinda lame? Protectorates that is.

Yea, I'm not a fan of protectorates... even to the point that while playing Turkey, I liberated Egypt.. declared war on it and conqured it.  I really wanted the full production and monetary values and control of the unit production.  The protectorates never seem to produce the unit types I need at the time.

I get that you cant do it, but I dont understand why you cant do it. Particularly if they are part of another protectorate in a LATER scenario, I should be able to recreate that.

Because it would require too much programming to change [:'(]

It's not impossible to mod a game in the middle of it, however. Once the mod instructions are released, you might want to play around with it. (Ironically, it's easier to mod by hand than to program the change into the code.)
