What is the point or advantage of using a cavalry screen?

I see what it does but why do this? [&:]
I use a screen for two purposes. I will throw a cav way out front just to slow the enemy down while I deploy my forces or I use them as screens on the flanks to be sure the enemy doesn't dash around my rear without giving me time to prepare. It won't stop movement through but it does slow it down.
