Spawning Guerillas

Playing Russia in the 1792 scenario, in May 1793 a Guerilla unit appeared in Torzhak province. The manual seems pretty clear on when and where guerillas spawn but a Home province not under occupation and during peace is not one of those times, at least that I could find. Clicking on the unit has no effect but mousing over it shows it to have a Russian flag with the guerilla device. The people are moderately happy (+34) and the economy is doing fine. Any ideas what it means or how to make it go away?

Thats a rebel unit.  Move in your military and crush them.

Thanks for that, found it in the manual but NM is still positive so not sure why they spawned in the first place.  They're crushed though, horribly crushed.  Serve's 'em right to and brings meaning to the phrase, "The Peasants are Revolting"...

Here's a guerilla question for you.

I am France. It is 1793 sometime. I have been at war with Austria, but by the time this guy showed up, we had been in an enfored peace for a few months (Austria beat me).

This Austrian guerilla shows up in a provence east of Paris. I move in a small army (with around 4 inf), and nothing happens for about 3 turns. No combat. Nothing. No reports about "avoided combat" or anything.

What is happening here?

P.S. Love the game though :)

I think rebel units are only hostile towards the power they are revolting against.  I dont think you can fight them.  They might have ended up on your territory by retreating out of Austrian territory after a battle?

HiHi

Randomiser, those units often turn up when a forign Diplomate is in your county, who has been causing mischief, 'Insergents' or loss of moral etc.  As Russia set Nesseldore, he has a high Legal staus, to 'Capture/Expel and just leave him parked in Russia, every so often a message appears in 'Events' Nesseldore expels/fails to expel ...

Roger on the first and I think the 2nd is a good reply, something forced that unit out of where it came from (it didn't spawn in your land, it was forced to go there)

@Kingmaker that makes sense, thanks. Oddly the only diplomat to wander through there was English (Fox if I recall) with whom I have great relations and who are my biggest trading partner. Do diplomacy induced rebels spawn in random provinces or can they be targeted?

Might be time for a diplomatic trip to Ireland to return the favour...

Cheers

well, just because they are friendly, don't mean they are your friends, I have had major Allies, messing around in my backyard, just trying to get me upset (I normally kill them later)
