As Sweden (not sure if this is relevant) I won a war against Austria and Russia. In preparing the articles of surrender in both cases I decided to take Colonies. In the case of Russia it was instead of some rather nice provinces.

Anyway apparently both Austria and Russia had no colonies. I had not checked, I just assumed the treaty would not allow me to specify colonies they did not have. I assume they lost their colonies in a previous war but am not certain.

I think it might be nice to have the slider for colonies only allow you to choose a number of colonies equal or less than the number your opponent has.

I've learned to ALWAYS check the country details of a major power before drawing up terms in the treaty section because you can't get money when they don't have it either.
