Hello, I am a new player trying to learn the game as Sweden on easy settings. So far this seems to me as one of the best and well designed games I have ever played!
My problem after several attempts is that I can recruit units (militia, infantry etc.) only at the beginning of the game. Although I have all the resources necessary (including men) in abundance, I am only able to recruit Army, Privateer, 3rd line ship but no militia, infantry, artillery etc. I am sure it is a simple misunderstanding on my part, but I cannot find in the manual or the posts here what I am missing. Have also tried playing around with draft size without success. Thankful for any advice.

Sounds like you've hit the mobilization limit.  You can only buy a cretain number of units.  See page 42 of the manual.

Thank you for the quick response! This was the problem. Mobilization was 13/10. In order to be able to build I had to disband all militia+2 infantry divisions, leaving only 5 infantry + 2 cavalry divisions. Apparently careful planning from the beginning of what to build is necessary. The more i explore this game, the more I like it![&o]

Oh, but you missed an important detail, there.
You get one 'free' militia unit for every province you own.
So if you own 10 provinces you can build 10 militia units without any of them counting against the mobilization limit.
Only the 11th militia unit you build will count against the limit.
So go ahead and build those militias again - one for each city. [:)]

Apart from that, ships count against the mob. limit too - but on a much smaller scale.

also, try and get some protectorates, some come with troops already, others will build them, these do not count against you

(if you can get the Dutch and the Danes, you will have some better numbers and a much larger Navy, of course, France, and Prussia tend to think the same way)

OK, but now I am unable to rebuild them since mobilization is 14/10 after receiving free units. I guess it was a mistake to disband those militia units in the first place. (I now have Poland as a protectorate so it's a new situation.) Thanks again for all the good advice!

if you got there starting troops, and then what they will build, Poland is a good help, but, it is also a good target
