I've noticed that many of the advances that one can select seem to be oriented to the detailed tactical battle system. What I would like to know is that if I choose some of the tactical cav advances, or "hotshot" for my navy will these advances be useful when one is playing with the "instant battle" function.
If I'm playing an PBEM game where you have to use the "instant battle" mode I want to make sure I choose useful advances. Does anyone have an answer for this? Thanks.

yea, upgrades and special abilities are calculated in pbem instant battles as well
