well, in case Brady is a stickler - 'tis a DUKW
the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.

Alternatively, i guess it could be GPA 'Seep' (or Seagoing Jeep) although it looks a bit large for that...

True story,
I was hitchhiking from somewhere in N California (don't remember where exactly) to the Bay area (Moffett Field, I was in the Navy, mid 1970's). Anyway I got my thumb up on the side of the road and along comes a DUKW, pulls over and picks me up. It was loaded with hippies heading for the Santa Cruz Mountains. We road that old baby all the way, and oh boy did I get stoned. Ah fond memories of younger days.
Now I live in Seattle WA and they have a city tour here "Ride the Ducks", if anyone is interested in riding one today. A few years ago one of the tour Ducks sank in the middle of Lake Union, fortunately there were no casualties. All the tourists survived.

Didn't know Seattle had a Duck Tour. I rode them in Boston and absolutely loved it when the guy drove right down the boat ramp and into Boston Harbor! It was great. The Docent even let me drive the Duck and I had a blast. It was like a kid in a candy shop...very cool!

Here is the intrepid Captain Cochran commanding a DUKW in Boston Harbor Memorial Day Weekend 2003:
My wife sent me the picture to post and said that this is my good side!

Two years ago here in Ottawa we had a Duck sink in the Ottawa river. Fortunately it wasn't far from shore when it went down.

They sure are sluggish to move round in the water. I would turn the wheel and it certainly didn't react very quickly. Sort of reminded me of Titanic...
As low in the water as they sit fully loaded I could easily imagine how quickly they could be swamped.
