The Defense of Krasnograd

I am interested in hearing how people defend Krasnograd. I am hoping to get a game going as the Germans but I remember I lost a lot of units trying to defend this city and my German opponents in two email games also suffered heavy losses around there. On the plus side, defending Kras does help to slow down the Russians from heading into the soft underbelly of Kharkov and Chuguyev, assuming their commanders allow them into that area.
Did you have any big successes or disasters with this defense?

I am generally able to defend Krasnograd from the Soviets in email games, although not always. I surround Krasnograd with entrenched units as well as the city hex itself and this tends to make it harder for the Soviets to punch through. Their cav units are not good at a stand up fight. If the Soviet really wants to capture the city early then he should send in the 21st and 23rd tank brigades as well - this should give him the attacking power to thump the Germans early. I also hedgehog units in Lannaya, a couple of hexes to the west of Krasnograd. This prevents the Soviet from getting some rather welcome Alert units.
cheers

Those sound like good ideas Chris. Fortifying around the city must help a lot to spread out the Russian units when they try to surround the area.
