Does anyone know of a quick way to see how many times a given team has made it to the World Series?

If you go into the teams page and click on "Browse team history" is the quickest that i know.

Crash's Post Season add-in will work too !

You could also go into "Almanac" and click on "Past Champions"

Already tried all of those. [:D] Being the super lazy person I am I just wanted to being able to have a summary somewhere. I wouldn't want to have to comb through 100 seasons of data to find what I'm looking for. You know what would be really nice? A custom query engine. Actually, I guess those that have a version of Access that will read the .psa and .psx files already have that. I would have no problem creating my own reports, etc. if I had access to the database. I'm pretty sure that there are fields in there somewhere that show World Series appearances as well as victories and years. Hmmmm, maybe I need to learn how to build add-ons. Anyone know what knowledge is required?

Actually, there's an add-in called "World Series Titles". It's one of Crash Davis'.

That add-in is great, but what I want is to be able to look at team and see not just their World Series titles, but how many times, and in what years, they actually made it to the Series. I'm thinking I might look at what's required to write new ones, even if they are ugly and for my own use. Or I could just get an updated version of Access, though I doubt I'll do that. Does anyone know if OpenOffice will read the Puresim databases?

The guy to ask would be Steve Lucey. I'm sure he'd be willing to help you.

I think I might do that. Then I'm going to ask for something that shows how many HRs were hit at home vs. on the road. :) I think some of my stadiums might need adjusting.

Yeah. The parks of the early 1900s had some really odd configurations, and that's why I don't go back that far for replays. The early dead-ball era also requires some adjustments in the XML to work out historically.

This is why I restrict my earliest replays to the post-1920 era.

what I want...how many times, and in what years, they actually made it to the Series.

WrathChild,
If you click the Almanac button on the bottom of the screen, you'll find a link on the left side of the screen "Post Season Results" that will give you all the past World Series matchups. Is this what you were looking for?

Crash:

That isn't really what I'm looking for. I've scoured the game itself and all your addins to see if there's something that will provide what I want. I'm really looking just for a simple query that uses some form of a COUNT function to show how many times a given team made it to the post season, the World Series, and how many times they won the World Series. Years of Series victories would be even better, but that would probably be a little harder to throw into the output. I plan on taking my association as far as humanly possible, and if I get 50 years into it I don't want to have scour multiple screens to find out what years Team XYZ went to the playoff and/or the World Series and/or won the World Series. I don't know have or know how to use Visual Basic (I only have C++) or I would learn how to write some addins, if only for my own down and dirty use. I use Access to play with the PureSim_Export.mdb, but that's really only player data and not the association data.

1) Number of times in post season
2) Number of times in World Series
3) Number of times winning World Series
4) Years of World Series wins

This might be something I could build into World Series Titles addin since most of what you are looking for is already in there. I'm on vacation soon. I'll see what I can come up with.

Unfortunately, I don't know C++. I only use Visual Basic 6 Professional and Delphi 6 Professional for programming. Are you familiar with building SQL queries in Access?

I do write queries in Access, though usually nothing overly complicated. Unfortunately, the latest version of Access I have is Access 2000, which won't read Puresim's psa/psx files.
