There is a new Mod for SP:WAW now available. “The North Afrika Mod v5.4”
The Mod is designed for PBM players who want to use the Low Casualty settings and who would prefer to play with C&C on. The Mod Covers the War in North Afrika. Extensive changes have been made to several of the oobs for the Axis and Allied sides and a few new oobs have been made to allow for custom units. The Mod is available to all players but it should be used with the Low Carnage settings as several changes to the Mod have been done that make it less friendly to players who don't use the Low Carnage system. C&C play is optional but is strongly recommended.
We suggest you read the FAQ before you spend the time to down load the file to insure you understand what has been done to this mod file to make it so different then the Enhanced files you are typically playing with. quick question.....
does the low casualty preference setting mean that the battles are longer in turn length?

More turns are not "required", but a few more turns can be helpful when using C&C, which is part of the LC settings. We find that longer turn length battles can give more freedom of choice and manouever since you won't be under as much time pressure.
If you have read the N.Afrika forum posts regarding the maps used, you will also note the new ideas involved with VH's and the special map edge that allows for special situations.

Hey, do you know about Germany vs France scenario in 3040, where Germany attacks and France defends somewhere... in France? There are mines, barb wire, ATGs in houses, and 25 turn limit! Let me find it... 009-Chateau de Quesnou-40(PVS) and turn limit is 15! That one helluva job for 4 foot platoons and handful of tanks, but I made it with vanilla SPWAW!

Ok, first off, that scenario has nothing to do with our North Africa Mod or the question asked.
Second, that scenario was originally released with the 5.0 version, and was built off of an Advanced Squad Leader scenario. Back then, units were different and a 15 turn limit was sufficient.
And lastly, the LC settings make infantry combat in the game much more realistic, but that means games have to have more turns in order for players to achieve their stated mission goals.

Thx. The reason behind my querry was that as a long time SP player, i have felt that many scenarios had turn lengths that were so short that they tended to encourage greater "bloodiness" through forcing players to rush. This became even more accute once i started experimenting on my own with the preference settings to reduce excessive INF casualties. (I have been playing with 200% but will give 150% try after reading the threads mentioned here)

JEB you'd know know better than me... but... my impression is that LC does, in fact, make games last a bit longer.
Anyhoo... IMNSHO the NA mod is *the* SP:WaW to play if you're seeking WW2 realism and historical accuracy.
And no, this mod is *not* for the faint of the heart or the "casual gamer". But if the concept is something that appeals to you, the effort it takes to master it is *well* worth the investment.
