Saves

I've been playing this on and off for a while now, as well people reading these posts knows.

But I thought I was going mad at first, and now I realise I am not. Saved games...where are they? In the SaveGame folder, I have an August 1914 file, an Early August 1914 file and a Quicksave.

Now, I've just been in and played a turn and some battles and got to the Events stage I think...anyway, I pressed ESC and got the menu. I then clicked on the save option and entered September 1914 (it was actually already there anyway). The game told me it saved the file. As a check (because I was sure I had saved September before), I went to start a new game, and the file I just saved doesn't show in the list on the left. Nor is it in the SaveGame folder.

Where r my saves going? I thought I was stuck in a kind of Groundhog Day scenario...but it appears I truly have replayed August to September probably half a dozen times! August is getting mighty boring!

It sounds like some of the games are not saving. If you already have one of Early August, and you click save, it should ask you if you want to delete the old game. You click the check mark, it deletes and you click the check mark and it saves. On occasion, I have clicked the x mark the second click, so I did not save, but did not realize it until later.

I have added a descriptive word to the saved game to make it easier to pick the one I want-like Early August East, or September 1914 Test A. This also eliminates the possibility of failing to save after the delete action. There may be close to 2 dozen saved games-and I know what most of them are at a glance..

So, I know of what you speak as I have done that a few times myself. The modified name change is the easiest to use. I made a series of 1914 starts with different initial moves-getting ready for an MP game (which looks like will be on hold for a while). I saved them all with just adding an A, B,.. to the file.

When it starts to get a little cluttered, I open the save game dialog and delete 5 or six at one time.
Hope this helps.

The saves go the Data\SaveGame folder. The Enter key does not work in the Save windows, so click on the Ok button.

First off, I did give it a new name...September 1914...in fact it was the one suggested by the game because that was the month and year I was on.

Second, I know where the saved games go...the reason I asked the question is because my saved games don't seem to be going there.

Third, and most importantly, I got a message saying the game was saved.

I know this looks like user error, but it isn't. I'm very computer literate, being a Software Engineer you have to be [:D]

For experiments sake, I will load August 1914 (again) and try again.

OK...I've found the problem...pressing the ENTER key.

I saved 6 files...3 I saved by typing a name and clicking the tick box and 3 I saved by typing a name and pressing the ENTER key THEN clicking the tick button.

The 3 files where I pressed the ENTER key did not save, even though a message was displayed saying "Saving on Local PC Complete"

So there...why the ENTER key is preventing the save I don't know.

So I am not going mad, and I'm not stupid...although I have to say there were times when I thought I was both!

Aha-I was afraid there might be a new creeping bug-glad that's not the case.

I most likely never had the situation of the enter key. I'm more of a cursor user than a keyboard user.

Sometimes guys play many different games in very limited recreation time. It is possible to confuse actions from one game to another-Lord knows, that never happened to me[:D]. Its not a matter of being smart. I used to have a rule of not bothering with a new game until I fully understood and played through the last title multiple times-regardless of whether I wanted a new title or not. I now have a backlog of un-played games-mistakes will abound.
I have played WW1 a few hundred hours by now-a very interesting game. Although I'm fairly comfortable with the way the game plays I still run into things I was not aware of.
