Change of parent <=> fragment unit

Hi all,

as you all know, e.g. when airlifting a unit at some point of time -some people seem to say only after a break in the airlift process, if you have any opinion on that please let me know as well- the previous parent unit becomes the fragment and vice versa.

Also, it is well known that once the previous parent unit is destroyed the fragment becomes the new parent.

What I would like to know is whether anyone has seen the change of parent/fragment part occur as a consequence of losses taken by the parent during battle. I think it should work that way, but is anyone sure about that ?

Also, in case we have fragments /1 and /2, which of the fragments will become parent ? The stronger one or the one with the lower number ?

Thanks for your input

Usually see this in conjunction with transporting a unit under siege... the "parent" is determined by the unit having the most SUPPORT squads (apparently).

I see the parent designation change while still airlifting.

However, it also seems that the parent doesn't necessarily flip the turn you might think. e.g., when airlifting the SW Pacific HQ in a recent Scenario 4 PBEM, even after the destination had over half of the squads it was at least 2-3 days, possibly more, before the fragment became the parent.

Just be careful because if you airlift the last of a parent there is a bug (is it fixed?) that can make the entire unit disappear. I usually stop airlift and wait if it hasn't changed and I'm close to getting it all out.

Not fixed yet (in 1.806) - i think it is supposed to be fixed in AE, but who knows?

Right - and if the number of support squads is about the same, it can "flip" back and forth between parent and fragment... it is OK to keep transporting as long as you are not about to move the last bit of the unit... this will usually speed up the transition from parent to fragment (and from fragment to parent).

Thanks to everyone sharing his insight. The reason for a "break" during airlift mentioned by Mynok was what was in the back of my headwhen I mentioned the potential need to provide such a break. Also, the use of the support squads for the determination of parent unit may be a reason why I had the impression that the change may not occur after deliberate or shock attacks, because I assume that tends to hurt support squads less (correct me if I'm wrong here).

Thanks again
