Advanced Economy Guide

One of the things I appreciated when I first bought COG several years ago was a guide on the economy created by Ralegh. It contained a lot of information that was a little cryptic to me at first, but made a lot of sense as I learned the game. It gave me the desire to really get to know the economy so that I could enjoy the game a little more.

Well, I decided last summer to write an economy guide for COG:EE. It's finally done and will be included in the next patch, as will the Modder's Guide I wrote a few months back.

It includes two files: a pdf of the document that explaines the economy, and an Excel spreadsheet that contains all kinds of data for the 1085 Standard scenario. The spreadsheet can be used to help you decide what to do with the sliders and which developments to focus on for all provinces.

The pdf is how I see the economy and what I do to maximize it. I try to show the basics and add in just a few of the nuances that you might find useful. Keep in mind that there are other techniques that work equally well; this guide is merely what I do when I play. I've used it with every country in the game with great success, with the caveat that some countries are just not as well off as others and are therefore more of a challenge.

When the patch is announced, take a look at it if you're wanting to understand the advanced economy a little better, or if you just can't seem to make sense of it. It doesn't replace the manual, but it does explain all the concepts and rules a little differently.

If you notice any mistakes, let me know. If you don't like my strategies, keep quiet. [:D]

I have also spent countless hours trying to caluclate production as the game does. I believe I have figured everything out now (thanks to Eric and Mike). I'll start putting these details out once the patch hits the scene. You'll be amazed at how simple the darn thing really is in it's calculations. Perhaps I sould say elegant, and not "simple," but it is certainly not a mysterious beast that can't be tamed.

Again, thanks to Ralegh for the inspiration.

I hope the patch is soon.  The economy is quite difficult to grasp right now (at least for me).
