Is there not a way to edit the .exe file for this game so that it runs in a window? Or am I getting thos confused with another game? I strongly remember that you could do it with Highway to the Reich and this game as well.

No you couldn't run HTTR or COTA in a window. The reason for that is that we write directly to screen for speed reasons. This would require a significant effort and would slow play somewhat. Maybe when we rework the UI graphics engine some time in the future we can see what we can do in this regard.
