Multiplayer connections

A few tech support requests:
1. Many of those that have CC TLD so far (myself included) are having a very hard time connecting to others with TCP/UDP or even with hamachi TCP. I'm 1 success out of 3 people so far and the others I've talked to also can't connect with very many others. Its weird that most players I know have very little problem with TCP for old CC5 but lots of problems with CC TLD TCP. I thought would be the same - is there some difference? Otherwise I am enjoying but would like to be able to play with others too.
2. Can you guys work with gamespy to add a CC TLD room (and, if possible, CC WaR room)? Many of us have better luck connecting with people there than over TCP/UDP. At least with CC5. Getting a CC TLD gamespy room requires assistance from gamespy and don't know if they gamespy is still doing any real support for new games?
Thanks for this game and your support if possible.

After having opened the respective ports (and having uninstalled hamachi) I have no problem in connecting to other players with open ports on their side [;)]. It turned out that most of the guys I play against have routers and most of these have not opened their ports. Hamachi is no real solution in my eyes. It makes matters worse or could at least do so...as in my case. In addition, turn off the firewalls.
Here is a useful tool to
check your ports!

Hey Korsun thanks for the report and for the advice to others. Good to hear you got it working! Would rather it be something simple. Best for all involved.[;)]
I've heard similar reports about Hamachi. Not condeming it as I've avoided it so can't speak from personal experience, it's just that there have been reports of difficulties using it.

One last thing to do Korsun: Go in to your firewall and allow the TLD .exe (it may be termed as "an exception"). Some firewalls also allow you to pass specific ports and port ranges, like the Microsoft game ports, where one fix will fix all.
Then you can keep your firewall up and not have to remember to disable for a game and then re-enable for security.

Thanks Andrew. I was thinking those ports were only if you were playing UDP since they are listed as UDP ports but looks like for TCP as well so I'm sure that's the problem (I don't have a router but those I was trying to connect with do).

I have just tried CCTLD in MP with Hamachi - It runs great and we have no connection problems.
Just remember that your IP address in the Hamachi network is the address given in the top of the hamachi window when logged in.... See the picture below:
So don't try to use any other ip adress even though CCTLD gives you and IP. It gives me my internal IP....

I have very strange connection problems.
The strange is, that it works with some guy to play TLD, but with others no chance.
I have a static ip, firewall down and a good connection.
Is there a way to find the problem, e.g. Logfile,...
thx

it can be that the others are having problems with the correct ports. I came across at least 4 guys that had problems with their routers. This means that it is not necessarily up to you whether a connection is accomplished or not...

I have problems connection with guys behind routers. But the mates say that they can play TLD multiplayer and CC5 without problem.
I can play with 2 mates. Can it be that playes behind routers, have no problem to play with each other, but with a static ip they make problems?

We'd love one but I think that's up to gamespy iirc.
Yes, it certainly would be up to gamespy but someone at matrix would have to ask them if one can be created

My question was more if that had been done (the question asked)
Thanks!

As it seems, there is a bigger problem connection multiplayes.
It can not be today, that games got published that do not work multiplayer. Also that there is no error Msg, logfile,... to analyse the problem.
Also there is no support from matrix Games, that helps,
Dear Guys, pls fix this problem soon,

Good question. I would've thought it had been but need to ask to be sure.

@ Ifoko and Bairdlander - it's very likely that the proper ports are not open on your router or firewall settings aren't allowing the game to be fully operational. Look at the second post in this thread that Andrew posted. All the information you need is at the link he posted.
A common mistake many have been making is that they are not also opening up the TCP ports as well. BOTH must be opened for both types of connections to work properly.

I have a static IP and I am not behind a router.
The first thing I would recommend, is to output a Error Message.
Catching Exception and killing the ErrorCode is very bad programming style.
Because now we can only guess what is wrong, but have no deterministic approach to solve the problem

I'll pass the recommendation along. I'm not a programmer so it's gibberish to me.[8|] I understand the point tho and what you're saying makes sense. Not sure if there's a technical reason why it can't be done. It's pretty old code so that may be the case. Again, I'm not a programmer so that may not be even close to reality.

I've tried everything I know how to host (firewall, ports, various IP addresses, etc.) but nothing has worked. I know several others who are having the same problem. I'm running TLD on Vista, so unfortunately Hamachi doesn't work.
Anything you guys can do to help resolve this problem would be much appreciated.
Best,
Mac
PS, the game is looking great!
