Question about force pools

If I am nurturing a unit along and raising its experience level and then decide to "park" it in the forcepool for a battle, perhaps to use a different type of unit for the specific tactical situation, and then in the next battle I want to retrieve my "parked" unit, will I get the same one back, or will I get a random replacement? It would be nice to put my experienced units "on the shelf" from time to time so long as I could get them back again.
