After the next patch is released Andrew mentioned that you will be able to name your own system names,

Will multi names be possible like Alpha Centauri,Epsilon Erandani,Wolf 369,Tau Ceti Prime,Zeta 2 Reticuli,etc?

Yes, but they'll still be limited to 8 characters (there's already a Tau Ceti, by the way). The plus side is that you'll be able to now name 150 of them (that's a 50% increase <= sounds better

I'm sure you'll be able to come up with better names than some of the new names that I've come up with like:
star001, star002 and slurpy (okay, I'm just joking ) but I do warn you, I've just recently finished The Lord of the Rings.

Well I guess its really not that important,just that I'd like more flexability with the names,anyway to stretch the max characters to say 16?

Maybe 8 over 8 would work better?

This is as close to a realtime discussion as I've ever had on a forum board.

The only reason I've limited things to 8 characters is because of star spacing. I'd have to leave bigger gaps between stars and this would mean less stars, even if I went with a 2x8 character name. Let's be honest though, even if I somehow increased it to 16 characters, it still wouldn't be enough for some. I prefer to concentrate on things that give me more bang for the buck.

Matrix Games is currently putting the next patch through its paces. Should be any day now.

I use VC++ 5.0 and DirectX 8.0 for development.

Most of the names I come up with wont fit into 8 letter max.

I think we'll all be able to fill that gap.
