aircraft upgrade paths

can anybody tell me how to set the aircraft upgrade paths for airgroups and airplanes.
how does the game know the difference between army and navy planes? are the slots hardcoded?
is there something im missig in the editor?

ggm,
subject to someone who knows what they are talking about intervening.
You set the upgrade path in the Air Group editor, UPGRADE Box.
I believe, in addition you get the normal upgrade path from the Aircraft editor.
So, the Wirraway upgrades to the Boomerang II.
But 22 Squadron RAAF which starts with the Wirraway has UPGRADE set to A-20B Boston so I believe in its upgrade path ingame you see both paths.
Aircraft aren't defined a "Nationality" (USN or USAAF) but Air Groups are.
SO I THINK, this is controlled by the upgrade paths. I have never tried allocating Air Force aircraft to Navy Units, being aware that Air Force aircraft are not carrier capable.
