Vista Issues

I remember having this run back on XP in the day, but I decided to try it on Vista for some nostalgia. The main menu runs fine, but it always crashes on loading from the Play link in the main menu.
Am I the only Vista person having problems with that?

No. Two threads below yours another user is facing the same problem. I don't have vista so I can't check it out.

Hmm, I had read that earlier but I don't think we are having the same issues.
For example, I can't even get the process tos_ws.exe to load, as it crashes every time the game tries to start that.
I guess I"ll tinker around a little more.

Alright, an update. I was finally able to get it to work!
This is what I did...
A. Throw away the original CD.
B. Download the Free-Ware version, and run it.
Hope that helps everyone else.

Great. Seems to be the copy protection which was removed for the freeware.

Is this the same terrible copy-protection that was used in TOAW? I think the TOAW problem lays in the fact that if it can not RECOGNIZE the Windows version it is running on,then the CD would immediately tell you that it was a non-compatible NT CD or some such excuse. It really annoys me how many publishers put such terrrible designs in their software. Sometimes just changing the version of the same windows OS was enough to prevent a game running at all.
This is just another reason I have to make frequen trips to warez sites, and I will probably be donig so until the day I die.
