Fighter intercept range - variable?

Hi,

I'm in a PBEM game where I have many fighter units on a single airfield. I have about 5 units, each containing 5 to 15 FTR SFT's. All are above 25% readiness and I have their intercept threshold set to 25%.

However when I watch turn replay I see only some small number of my FTR's intercepting air strikes. For example the first opponent air strike within intercept range will be intercepted by 12 FTR. Then another opponent air strike is intercepted in a different (closer) location by 18 FTR.

Why would all FTR's not intercept at the same range? Is FTR intercept range affected by FTR SFT readiness value or some other factor that I'm not aware of?

Thanks

They are affected by their actual readiness. So those with less readiness will only intercept closer to their own base.

Hm - that is news to me. Any idea what the formula is for readiness reducing intercept range?

Thanks

Intercept range is only 5 is readiness is 100pts. if readyness is lower then 100 its 4. If lower then 80 its 3. If lower then 60 its 2. If lower then 40 its 1. If lower then 20 its 0.

This is what Vic told me, obviously range is different with our game but should give an idea. is readiness of your fighter groups similar to each other or do they differ? if they do, that should explain it.

I've seen this in another thread. It seems like it is a % reduction in range proporitonal to readiness which breaks at 75, 50, 25. For example at 50% readiness they intercept at 50% range.

Guys, it's actualy in the Game Manual...P58.

"Fighters will AUTOMATICALLY intercept an attack on a hex within half their normal range if their Readiness is 100%. If their Readiness is lower, their intercept range will be shorter. At 100% Readiness their intercept range is 5; if 80-99%, their range is 4; if 60-79%, their range is 3; if 40-59%, their range is 2; and if 20-39%, their range is 1. If their Readiness is lower than 20%, their range is zero. Fighters will only intercept if their Readiness is equal or higher to their intercept standing order."

Note that the ranges quoted above assume a standard Air Range of 10 hexes...for the LVL 1 Fighter unit that is in AT's standard OOB. If the air range is different then that....then intercept will be proportional to the numbers listed above (I.E. Air range = 20.... A unit at 65% readiness will intercept at 6 hexes)
