Is this game Win2K compatible or not?

Post by milkweg »

The info for the game says it is Win2K compatible so thought I would install it to Win2K because that PC has a 4:3 CRT attached to it. Waste of my time! It starts and loads and then dumps out just as the game menu is about to load. No error message even. I have ATI 9600pro and Santa Cruz soundcard on that PC which works with every other game I have installed there. This is the first game I have not been able to get running on that PC and yet it says it is Win2K compatible. Any idea what the issue is?. Just made sure Directx is up to date and same problem. Runs fine on my Vista64 PC though.

I develop both FOF and COG primarily on a Windows 2000 machine, and both of them seem to run fine on that machine.

If it drops out during the loading sequence, the most common causes of this that we have seen are 1) sound drivers being out of date, 2) not enough memory, or the 3) Flash/Shockwave components being improperly installed or out of date.

OK, installed flash and can now get to the menu screen but when I select play local it never takes me to the game optins screen unless I press alt+tab a couple of times. Then after I make my game selections and press OK it does nothing. After a couple of minutes of staring at the screen I ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager and it shows that FoF is no longer responding.

IMO, you guys should not have used flash for the menu screen. I know it saved you some work by using flash but that PC is never connected to the internet and is why it didn't have flash installed. You should never assume everyone has a 3rd party component installed or even want it installed.

If you have nay ideas as to what the other issue is being caused by it would be appreciated, thanks.

I just realized what the issue might have been. I only installed the latest patch as I though it was a comprehensive patch but perhaps it is not and I need to install v.1.10.10 first?

I don't have access to the patch file at the moment, but if something like "Fm1.10.10" was part of the name, then you're definitely right. However, if you purchased the game in the past few months then that shouldn't be the issue, since Matrix updated the master copy to include 1.10.10. (If you're uncertain, just install the game and fire it up, and see what version number shows in the corner.)
