I was out working in my garden about half an hour ago when I heard an unusually throaty roar of propellers approaching. We don't get a lot of planes overhead here in sleepy little Corvallis, Oregon, so I looked up. It couldn't be! was my first thought. It is! was the next. I raced into the house and grabbed my camera and managed to get a couple of inadaquate pictures before it disappeared.

I apologize for the quality, but as I said I was rushed. Is it a bad thing that my third thought was "Where the heck is my CAP?"

Somebody nominated this as one of the war's "ugliest" planes.  I don't see it!  Quite pleasing, to my eyes.  Thanks for posting, Cuttlefish.  Now, if you happen to see the Cuttlefish steaming off the coast near your house, please be sure to post!  If you see the Hibiki, consult help.

That is the Collins' Foundation B-24.  It is the only one in the world flying.  It a B-17, and a P-51C will be in Covalis from today to the 12th.  They will be moving to Hilsburo from the 12th to 15th, then Seattle 6/17-22. 

I rode in the B-24 a few years ago.  If you have the money, it's worth it.  They give B-17 rides too.  Even if you don't have the cash for a ride, tours of the planes are only a few dollars and every bit helps keep them in the air.  I recommend you go down to the local airport and check them out.

They were here in Indianapolis this past weekend for a big annual airshow and a few of their number are "based" locally.

Maybe 15 years ago, a B 24 J (or later) had just been restored and flown here from India. Seeing something like that, in the "flesh" and on the ground, (and in the air) really brings life to little cardboard counters, and digits of CPU color......

Hey Bill, thanks for the info! I will check it out for sure. I was pretty excited to see that plane. It isn't every day that a B-24 comes in low over my vegetable garden.

um yeah i beg to differ the 24 that is based right next to my appartment at addison airport is also flyable. i get to see if fly right over my head about once a month while i am out jogging(normaly on approach with the gear down[:'(])

i think thats the collings one i got to ride in it its a latter model b24. the caf one is either an lb30 or a b24a depending on what they feel like calling it at the time.

a ride on it was in the 400s last time i rode it its about a 30 min flight and is worth every penny. i had a smile on my face that i could not get rid of for like 3 days.

I guess the CAF did convert their C-87 back to B-24 configuration. I saw it many years ago when it was still in C-87 config.

I'd love to fly in one but the price was too steep.

Back on one of the anniversaries of the Doolittle raid they had some of the original guys here at an airshow (this must have been 10-15 years ago now) and a bar/grill here named "Doolittles" was giving away rides on a B-25 with those guys. Me and a buddy went and the guys with the tickets right before us and right after us won [:@]

i was there the other day at the musuem and they were giving tours but i didn't go inside it. but i have been told that it isn't b24a config inside just outside.

2 flying in america 1 flying in europe. a few other trying to be restored to flying condition.

So thats were the raid on Bangkok ended up!

About fifteen years ago I was coming out of teh post office when I heard a lour roar in the sky above me. I looked up to see a B17 flying overhead. It was the Collins Foundation's Nine-O-Nine, which was visiting with the B24 at the time (I don't recall the B24's name). I went out to the airport the next day to visit them and watch them leave. The B24 developed engine problems and so its departure was delayed. I couldn't hang around to wait, so I've yet to see a Liberator in the air (in person).
 
It also looks like they aren't coming to Olympia for our local Warbirds show later this month...[:(]
