Historical Position Issue

Post by Skrabec1 »

What is happening is that when you view players prior to importing you can see the first listed fielding position as OF on the outfielders of older teams. The import program then looks like it assigns those players to RF as a position. Whatever the 1st list position is it what the player gets assigned to. The 2008 teams seem fine.

There's an issue with the way PS imports OF from the Lahman database. I think he's gonna look into it once he returns from vacation. The only option at present is to manually edit the position assignments.

So does this mean that when playing historical associations you are apt to get hit with an influx of RF every year?

I'm afraid that is so. My newly-created 2005 historical association is f*cked because of the import glitch, as I didn't bother to manually edit all 30 teams. It's my fault, as I didn't research it thoroughly enough.

If Shaun can fix it, fine. If NOT, then we'll have to do it ourselves. An obvious problem, though, is updating the following season's draft pool. We don't need a slew of Roy Hobbs wannabes every year, do we? Memo Paris: "What position do you play?" Roy: "Right field". Memo: "That's Bump's position" [:D]

I haven't been paying attention to that at all when I've been doing my drafts. I'm sure it's had some impact on the players that the other teams have drafted. I guess that if it remains like this I will review each historical player in the draft pool for historical accuracy, though I'm not sure if you can edit them before the draft or not.

There is a temporary fix I am using that so far seems to work with the lahman 55 database (56 causes too many RF's as well)

1. Download the Lahman 55 access database (42 mb file), rename it lahmanps and replace the database in the puresim 2007 folder (79 mb--I don't know why it's larger).

When you open the game, it will analyze the new database and now I am able to import the 78 season with not all OF's being RF's.

I backed up the original 79 mb database just to be safe.

If anyone is brave, let me know if this works for anyone else.

Yes!!!!!!!!!! It works- Thanks Duncan21's 1) Download Lahman 55 access version. 2) rename current lahmanps to oldlahmanps 3) copy the database from step 1 to the puresim folder and rename it lahmanps 4) now when you start the game it will say "Processing Lahman database". let it run through the process. When its done start the game and import away!!! By the way after it processes it is now 74mb in size, very close to the original.

Thanks for the tip.    The only issue with this solution is that you can't start with the 2008 season.  I suspect lahmanps is using lahman 5.6 as the base which causes the issue.
