Had to cut short a week long vacation out of Mobile/Pensacola due to work, but got to take some pics of the new LCS Independence fitting out. Actually saw this from my room at the Battle House hotel so had to scurry down to the docks to take some pics.

That's a pretty cool looking ship. I especially like the ghostly hull numer. Not bad for a 'gator!

Cool. A few weeks ago we vacationed in Orange Beach. On the way back I wanted the wife to stop for photos...she didn't, the traffic/tunnel freaked he out. We did stop to see the Alabama.

So thanks for the photos!

Yea, that combination sometimes freaks me out too! [:D]

That's when I take the Bankhead tunnel, even though I don't like that one either. [:D][8|]

Hi all,

Oh my... [X(][X(][X(]

I know that stealth is "in" but, my God, all new ships are ugly... the WWII ships had beauty in their lines... <SIGH>

while I can somehow live with the look of the ship from the side, I think it´s extremely uggly from the front.

There is a certain "clean-ness" about the new ships. Very futureistic.

So what is this ship's mission? I noticed it appears to have a wet dock in the stern for amphibious craft, the helo hangar and deck for helicopters and UMV's, and some diddly little auto-gun forward in a stealthy turret. The forward deck probably has a VLS and there's at least one CIWS visible. Will this ship be used to land troops, or is it some kind of escort/multipurpose craft.

I agree it is ugly. Way too many angled planes pointing the wrong direction, and the blend from hull to superstructure looks more like a cruise ship than a warship.

I would like to know what the radar signature is and how it compares to a non-stealthy ship.
