Modding Pacific War

I have tried opening the PAC.MAP in notepad, and I get all sorts of commas, periods, spaces, slashes, etc. In an effort to determine exactly what these things mean, I have tried adding or replacing them. As soon as I make the slightest change, all I get is a totally screwed up map with bars of horizontal land running through all full-sea squares. Obviously I don't know what I am doing.

Is there any documentation to tell me how to Mod PacWar? There are supposed to be tools for making changes, but I haven't found them. Alternatively, is there someone who is knowledgable about this who wants to help me out?

The third alternative is to give up and go away, I guess.

If there is a crew that wants to help me, maybe we could manage to make this into a full-scale World War II.

The Excel spreadsheet will do a reasonable job of changing some of the values. You can make aircraft more or less expensive, change the firepower of ships, or alter the terrain and resource values of various bases. As for changing the map itself, I don't know of a good way to do that.

Exceedingly unlikely. PacWar is still a DOS-based game, and therefore must run within 640K of RAM. A number of people have already found it hard to run because of its memory requirements. I don't think it's possible to expand it that far.

History is full of examples of people who have done what they have been told is impossible.  (But not by me...so far.)
