When I saw this game announced I realised it is 25years since I played Gary's first Eastern Front game on an Atari 800!
Anyway, nostalgia aside, I would appreciate some insight into how each side recycles eliminated units back into the order of battle.
Also can Kampfgruppe/alert units be created to deal with the gaps created in the front by encirclements and/or overwhelming offensives?

This was in the last built "When a German unit is destroyed it is now returned to the map on the next turn and is frozen for 10 turns. Units that need to withdraw that are frozen will be required to refit until they reach at least 75% of their TOE at which point they will be withdrawn." The player can let the unit gradually build up or place it in Refit mode to give it priority status on equipment and men. Please keep in mind we are still in Alpha and there is still debate on this so it will most likely change. I can't speak for the Soviet side.

Wow - I remember the old Eastern Front on the Atari as well. A bit too young to truly grasp the game at the time, though my Dad spent hours and hours playing to the point where he routinely wiped out the entire Soviet Army in the 1941 scenario.

When a unit is returned to the map is it to a specific spot , such as a city i.e Berlin or a random position on the map behind the front line?

I'd suggest the reforming was optional.
The Germans did run units into the ground and then use what was left as the cadre for a new formation, but there are examples of units being folded or not reformed, particularly later in the war.
If manpower/replacements are limited, then being forced to reform 336th Infantry division might be a painful drain if 11th Panzer, 10th SS and Panzer Lehr are currently reforming/refitting as well.
Just a suggestion.

There is always a choice to disband or do not refit a unit.

They come back to a city on the west edge of the map.
