SPWAW in windowed mode for real!

So I was bored and found a program in the internet that allows you to run games in windowed mode. At least some games. So I tried it whit spwaw and it actualy works.
The program is called DirectX Windower. The site for the program is japanese and can be found here
http://www.geocities.jp/menopem/
However there is a English version of the program here (which i used because i cant read japanese):
http://rapidshare.com/files/72847117/D3 ... h.rar.html
Running it is quite simple. Just unpack it into your SPWAW main folder (where you have Mech.exe) then start it from D3DWindower-English.exe. Click the blue + button and navigate to mech.exe and clik open. Then select mech and click the small computer sign and spwaw should start in windowed mode.
Attached is a picture instruction to make it more clear.
I think this could potentialy help people who have problems running the game in Vista or Windows XP. In addition you can now take screenshots directly whit the print screen button or record video of the game (for example whit hypercam)!

Sounds like this could help lots of folks!
Are you registered at
http://www.spwaw.com/phpBB2/index.php ?
If so, you would reach lots more people who have had the problems this can fix.
Thanks for sharing [:)]

The program did work for me *however* the window is 800x600 which was smallish, mouse was laggy, finding the scroll point at the window edge was a pain.

I found the the tool tips are in English.
Click the settings folder icon. Under the Common tab are settings for Height and Width. They are reversed. I am playing with the numbers but on my 1024 x 768 screen I have it set at 1012 and 706. This makes it a full window but the text is somewhat pixelated. You might try this out yourself.

Here is a download mirror for this great program. (the rapid share one is often busy):
http://www.filefront.com/13838785/D3DWindower-English/
You can make the mouse pointer stay inside the window by going to the "settings..." and "Direct input" tab. Then clik the "Cursor clip" check box. That way you can scroll the map with no problem...
D3DWindower is wery resourse demanding so if you have a wery old (or slow) computer it might not work wery fast.

It should work for any windows game that runs from it's own exe file.

well i can't get it to work and i tried following the instructions not sure what i did wrong....
(i believe the game might ALWAYS be in a window... a window which fills the screen and cannot be resized but is technically not fullscreen)

The fix in
tm.asp?m=2452605 works better for SPWAW.

I used the program recommended by T26Buster at the start of this thread. It works fine in solitaire mode. (The window is small. I increased it some using Junk2Drive's technique.)
However, my opponent and I tried a game using TCPIP (modem) play and ran into trouble. We got through five or six turns very well. Then the game stalled for 12 minutes and then recovered on its own. Two turns later, the game completely froze.
Has anyone else tried modem play?
By the way, I tried the fix suggested by SteelyGlint, but it did not work on my system. When I run the script, the screen goes black.
